Seeing the beautiful harvest moon tonight prompted Zoe to ask us why is the moon sometimes a crescent. I deferred to M, and he started with an explanation involving the word "orbit," which only led to more questions.

When we got home we busted out two balls and the flashlight. Viola! She now understands why the moon changes shapes. And what "orbit" means.
